3-month online group programme for parents of 3 - 8 year olds that are experiencing frequent emotional outbursts or are struggling to talk about overwhelming feelings

It’s understandable. You’re trying hard not to compare your child to other children, but keep wondering if they’ll ever catch up with their peers... and why they’re struggling so much in the first place!

Why does your child always end up upset or angry, on what should be even the simplest of outings?

You feel lost, discouraged... helpless.

You feel guilty every time you shirk off a playdate because you just don’t have the energy to deal with the outbursts anymore, especially in public. And you’ve started avoiding eye contact completely when it comes to nursery/ school pick-up because you can’t face another conversation about what ‘challenging behaviour’ your child showed today.

You worry that you’re letting them down. That it’s your fault. But how can you advocate for your child when you genuinely don’t understand their behaviour?

No-one else seems to fully understand. Not even your partner - who doesn’t seem as worried about this as you are...

It wasn’t meant to be this hard...

The good news is - it doesn’t have to be! Together we can help you to help your child.

The ‘Confidently Calm’ group programme was created specifically for you

In the 3-months we work together, you will:

  • Get insight into your child’s regulation needs and why they are doing some of the things which don’t quite make sense (yet)

  • Learn easy-to-use communication tools and calming techniques which will help your child to label their feelings and find ways to help themselves

  • Create a plan to connect with your child in genuine two-way interactions which will beautifully strengthen your bond with them

  • Practise communication tools which will help your child to ask for what they want and need

  • Work out how to best support your child when they are feeling overwhelmed

This group programme is for you if:

  • Your child lashes out when they want something and doesn’t understand why they can't have it here and now

  • You’re exhausted from the emotional outbursts that your child is experiencing regularly

  • You’re tired of doubting your parenting abilities and wishing family life was different

  • You’re desperate to experience less frustration and more time spent having fun with your child

  • Or perhaps your child just can’t articulate what they are feeling, do they seem to withdraw or become quiet in social situations or when asked how they feel? Do they always say ‘happy’ when you can tell that doesn’t reflect what’s going on for them?

  • You’d love a clear plan that both you and your whole family can follow so you all know what to do and can celebrate the wins together too

  • You want to be the best parent possible for your child but currently feel way out of your depth!

  • You long to feel more supported by someone who gets it and the idea of having a friendly professional and a group of likeminded parents in your back pocket sounds AMAZING

  • You might be wondering if your child might have sensory processing needs, ADHD or Autism, you might be on a waiting list for assessment or may just be curious about neurodiversity. You child might recently have received a diagnosis and you aren’t sure how to help.

This group programme is NOT for you if:

  • You are looking for support in getting an EHCP or in school support for your child through the programme (I have a 1:1 support programme to help with that)

  • You would like to have 1:1 time to discuss your child’s needs in depth (again check out my 1:1 programme for that)

  • You aren’t feeling ready to try a different approach right now

Here is how we will work together:

The Resources:

  • Pre-recorded training videos which cover the steps you can take to support your child’s understanding of their emotions and support strategies. You can watch these trainings any time, day or night. Work through them fast, or take your time and absorb it all. There will be a bit of theory as well as super practical ideas which you can implement easily.

  • Printable visual resources and templates, so that you can get things implemented at home as soon as you’re ready

The Support:

  • You and I will meet twice a month on a group zoom call when you can get support with anything you are working on, or chat through things which are happening with your child.

  • Access to a private Facebook community where you can ask questions, celebrate things that are going well and get immediate feedback from me and the other parents.

You will have access to the group for 4 months once you join. 3 months to fully engage in the programme and an additional ‘bonus’ month so that you can revisit any of the materials/ videos or ask any follow up questions.

Why me?

Hi, I’m Sarah, a specialist speech and language teacher with a focus on emotional regulation for children 3-8 years old. I have been working with children and their families for almost 20 years.

I am increasingly drawn to working with parents because YOU are the best person to support your child! You are your child’s first and most important communication partner. All you need are the right tools.

Parenting is a tough job filled with self-doubt and worry. If you’re here looking for answers and support, please know this: you’re already doing an INCREDIBLE job for your child.

I’m a mum of two and let me tell you, supporting your own child is very different from supporting other people’s children in a professional capacity. I can now see things from a parent’s perspective much more clearly, as I have experienced similar struggles first hand. I specialise in supporting parents like you to understand your child’s emotional and regulation needs and then give you the tools to support your child when they are feeling overwhelmed.

These strategies help to reduce the frequency and intensity of emotional outburts.

Sounds great but have questions?

Here is some feedback from parents that have completed this group programme with me

‘Whatever challenges you’re experiencing as a parent, you will be met with empathy and practical strategies that do not require extensive learning or long period to implement. It’s practical, unlike the parenting courses that are often recommended for supporting families. the age/stage of your child doesn’t matter - everything learned can be individualised.

I’d recommend the programme to anyone who wants to understand their child’s needs better, or is wondering why parenting feels more challenging than for others. Also, for anyone who wants to spend time with others who may be feeling a similar way.

The community aspect was really reassuring and it felt good to be able to be supportive and supported.

Sarah’s warmth and personal contributions made the shared nature of the group even more powerful. She facilitates change with expert guidance, allowing the parents to become the experts for their children. The programme underpins the importance of parents taking care of themselves too, which is fundamental and all too often forgotten.’

Parent to 5- & 2-year-olds

‘Before joining the programme I was stressed, anxious and nervous, waiting for the next meltdown at home! My son is now better able to identify his emotions, and we as parents have more strategies and understanding of what is going on. It’s non-judgemental and you can work at your pace.

I am looking forward to implementing more strategies, and keeping focused on what needs to be done daily to keep things “in check” therefore resulting in a more content and calm household!’

And some feedback from parents that have completed this programme with me 1:1:

‘When we contacted you my confidence that my son’s behaviour struggles were a phase was dwindling and I was overwhelmed by differing parenting advice. An upcoming observation by a SEN advisor made me realise there may be long-term needs that we’d never really considered as parents.

After working with you, we now have way less shouting, positive feedback from nursery at every pick up, shorter-lived outbursts and overall a huge amount of clarity over how to support our little boy’s emotions in incredibly simple, practical ways.

Conversations were very informal, and we felt very well supported throughout. You’ve changed a huge part of our life and we now know so much more about how to parent our son in a positive, constructive way.

I’m actually looking forward to sharing our son’s toolkit with his primary school and avoiding being blindsided by humps in the road.’

‘I felt that without help I didn't know how to support my child and have an acceptable level of calm at home.’

Bedtime was vastly improved, which helped improve the kids’ mood, and provided us with some time in the evening for ourselves. We learnt how to support our daughter better to reduce her meltdowns and support her during them. We also began to address how we could support her with her anxiety.

You are knowledgeable and helped us find practical, achievable solutions. The theory you explained made sense and the practical steps you suggested worked immediately. You are a coach not a therapist and the strength of that is that you gave us resources to use after every session. Plus, you provided a very supportive environment. And you brought us kindness and humour to our meetings.’
